In 1901, Beatrix Potter self-published her first book, the Tale of Peter Rabbit, after several publishers had turned it down. It was picked up by a publisher the next year and was so popular it was reprinted six times by the end of the year. Potter went on to write 20 more children’s stories, becoming one of the most beloved authors of all time.
On top of being a commercially successful writer and artist, Potter was a naturalist and scientific illustrator, a sheep farmer, and conservationist.
What a testament to believing in yourself!
