Devin Dearth was a 40-year-old bodybuilder when he suffered a massive stroke that left him bedridden. 9,000 Needles is a documentary about him traveling to China for an immersive stroke rehabilitation program, combining both Western medicine and acupuncture.
Dearth used the grit and determination he learned from bodybuilding to embrace the treatment, and he did improve. Though he did die 7 years after his initial stroke, his journey is worth watching. I think you can see the whole documentary on youtube. I included the trailer below.
