When the Make-A-Wish foundation in San Francisco endeavored to grant the wish of a 5-year-old leukemia patient, thousands of people from all over the US wanted to help. Miles Scott wanted to be a superhero, and Batman was his favorite. Batkid Begins chronicles the day his wish came true.
From Patricia Wilson, the head of the San Francisco chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, to Mayor Ed Lee, to the actors who donated their time to play villains and heroes, to the cops who worked overtime for free to provide security, and to the thousands who showed up to cheer, Batkid Begins is full of people who care.
Though Miles’ parents admit that Miles may not have fully appreciated the events of the day, for the rest of us, this documentary is a reminder that a lot of us, maybe most of us, want to be good, want to be kind, and want to help. It is a reminder of what we can do when we work together. That so many people showed up and came through for a child they’d never met heartens the soul.
